God Has a Name for You
BIBLE PASSAGE: Judges 6:12 “The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.”
WORD FOR TODAY
God has a name for you. This name may be different from the labels people have given you, the limitations you see in yourself, or the circumstances surrounding your life. God sees beyond your present situation and calls you according to His purpose.
When the Angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, Gideon was hiding and felt weak and insignificant. Yet, God called him a mighty man of valour. Gideon struggled to accept this identity because he focused on his family background and his personal limitations (Judges 6:15). However, God saw the warrior Gideon would become through His grace.
This teaches us an important truth: God's description of you is greater than your present circumstances.
Jabez also understood the importance of identity. His name was connected with pain, but he cried to God for His blessing and for a life that would be different from the label placed upon him (1 Chronicles 4:9–10).
Perhaps you have been called a failure, weak, rejected, incapable, or unworthy. These names do not have to define your life. God knows the grace, gifts, and capacity He has placed within you. He sees what He has created and called you to become.
The question is this: What does God call you?
As you grow in His Word and walk with Him, you will discover your identity in Christ. When God reveals who you are, believe Him. Do not allow fear, past experiences, or the opinions of people to make you reject the name God has given you.
Find your identity in God, believe what He says about you, and live according to His calling.
Prayer
Lord, help me to see myself as You see me. Remove every false label that has kept me from walking in Your purpose. Give me the grace to believe Your Word and boldly become all You have called me to be. In Jesus' name, Amen.
